What is Glucogel?
Glucogel is a ‘sugar’ gel for treatment of hypoglycaemia which can be prescribed by your GP or it can be purchased over the counter. Glucogel should only be used if the person being treated can swallow. Do not administer Glucogel to an unconscious person because of the risk of choking.
What is Glucogel good for?
This product is used to treat low blood sugar levels. Symptoms of low blood sugar include sudden sweating, cold skin, shaking, irritability, fast heartbeat, hunger, blurred vision, dizziness, or tingling hands/feet.
Where do you apply Glucogel?
Squeeze the tube to insert the gel into the person’s mouth between their teeth and their cheek. Rub the outside of their cheek gently to allow the Glucogel to become absorbed. It is absorbed through the lining of the mouth and should help raise the blood glucose within 15 minutes.
What is oral glucose used for?
Oral glucose gel is used to raise dangerously low blood glucose concentration or blood glucose that has dropped too low for the person’s adaptive compensatory mechanisms to cope with. The gel may be self-administered or given by an Emergency Medical Technician or paramedic responding to a hypoglycaemic emergency.

How much Glucogel do I need for a hypo?

Can we drink glucose daily?
