A hearing implant reimagined. The Cochlear Osia System is like no other hearing implant system. It’s the world’s first osseointegrated steady-state implant (OSI) that uses digital piezoelectric stimulation to bypass non-functional areas of the natural hearing system and send sound directly to the cochlea.
How does the cochlear osia work?
A hearing implant reimagined The Osia OSI200 is placed under the skin and works by bypassing damaged areas of the outer and middle ear, which sends sound directly to the inner ear. The implant is attached to the BI300 which is Cochlear’s latest titanium implant featuring TiOblast™ surface technology.
What is a cochlear sound processor?
Cochlear implants use a sound processor that fits behind the ear. The processor captures sound signals and sends them to a receiver implanted under the skin behind the ear. The receiver sends the signals to electrodes implanted in the snail-shaped inner ear (cochlea).
Is cochlear osia MRI compatible?
Osia was designed with the same technology that has allowed for access to MRI for over two decades in Cochlear Nucleus Implant recipients. This key design feature allows for removal of the magnet. The Osia 200 implant was cleared as MRI Conditional at 1.5T and 3.0T with the implant magnet removed.
Is osia waterproof?
With an Aqua+ accessory, the Osia Sound Processor is waterproof down to almost 10 feet. No need to stand back, just jump in.
How long does osia surgery take?
Overall, the operation takes 30-45 minutes in most patients. Positioning the head correctly is particularly important in Osia surgery where one has a larger body habitus or limited neck mobility.
Is osia a Baha?
The Osia System is a completely new hearing implant and unlike the Baha 5 System, it is an active bone conduction solution. The system uses a Piezo Power™ transducer that sits within the OSI200 Implant, which is positioned under the skin to send sound to the cochlea.
